Advokids’ Enrichment Fund receives many requests for summer camp tuition assistance. Here is just a sampling of profiles of local foster children who are seeking your help to attend summer camp.
Annie is 13 years old and an amazing girl. She has been in the honor roll for two years in middle school. Annie lost her mother to cancer at age seven and her father was diagnosed with lung cancer and has not been able to care for her. Annie has had many losses in her life; however she is resilient and has been able to deal with adversity. She is very sweet and loves the outdoors. She is hoping to attend camp this summer. She wants to swim, hike, and do crafts. She is hoping to attend camp this summer with all her foster siblings as they have become a big part of her support group.
Andrew is 13 and been in foster care for 2 years. He is very bright and loves the outdoors. Last week he received the news that he will not be going home with his mother. He prayed every night that he would be able to go home, but due to his mother’s mental health, he will not be able to return home. He is devastated and angry. His foster mom believes that attending summer camp will help Andrew put aside some of his feelings of despair.
Ally is a 10th grader whose life has been challenging ever since she was very young.
She has overcome homelessness, survived her mother’s drug addiction and neglect, and the death of her father when she was only seven years old. Ally is a very resilient young woman who has learned to be self-reliant and responsible. Ally would like to attend camp this summer with all of her foster siblings. She has worked very hard this school year and has taken 8 classes each semester in order to catch up with her grade level. She will be a senior next year and hopes to apply for college the next upcoming year. Please help me give Ally a wonderful, exciting summer this year.
Davey is 14 and recently received the devastating news that she will be unable to return to her mom due to mom’s physical and mental health problems. Davey is struggling academically and socially. She would love to go to camp for 2 weeks, something she has never been able to do before. The camp experience would benefit her greatly.
